Just a few upcoming events in the WNY area—and slightly beyond—for the beer-o-philes among you to consider as the Dog Days of Summer roll on.

The Flour City (Rochester, if you didn’t know) sports a growing brewfest. Now in it’s 12th year and held at Frontier Field ballpark, the lineup of participating brewers includes, among others, local Flying Bsion, Sackets Harbor, and Brooklyn Brewery. There will also be music and food, not to mention a homebrewing demo and beer-and-food pairing session.

Beer-O-Vision checked out this event for the first time in June, as was very impressed- look for it in the upcoming episode. Typically tasting 6-8 beers, the atmosphere is very comfortable and for the smokers out there, remember: AltBrews is a cigar bar as well. They have a great selection (of brews and cigras), and your host, owner Paul Madsen, gets many of the beers for the tastings from customers who bring them from afar- very cool.

Another edition of the Goodbeer club, but pay attention, because it is a week early. The lineup is still very up in the air t this time. However, it will be their 3-year anniversary, and Beer-O-Vision will be helping Bobby to plan something a little different for the birthday celebration. In fact, suggestions are welcome!

09/14 - 09/16 | various times | 12th Annual Madison County Hopfest | variable, some events free
I know the banner is for the Madison County Historical Society- they’re sponsors, and I couldn’t find an event logo. I also realize Madison Co. is not in our backyard, probably as much as a 3h drive, depending (but not as far as Cooperstown!) However, this looks like a real blast, and BOV might try to take in one event if possible, we’ll see. NYS state was once a premier—the premier—american hop-growing area, and this festival, taking place at various sites in and around Oneida, NY, celebrates that fact. Events include a beer-dinner at Ye Old Landmark Tavern, A Hop Tour, and Brewery Sampling.

This is their 12th annual golf event, and while its not exactly a beer tasting per se, I know the beers that will accompany the golfing and food will be great, coming as they do from Paul & co. Your entry fee will get you: 18 holes of golf and cart, of course; Buffet lunch on the patio; Beverages on the course; Cocktail hour; Strip Steak Dinner & Prizes, as well. I don’t golf, but as I understand it, this is a chance to play on an excellent private course you wouldn’t otherwise get to play on, so if you are interested, reserve your ticket early. Proper golf attire and soft spikes required!
