brewfest

It’s that time of year again, folks- time to consider, on top of all the other summer craft beer events in the area, the big kahuna: The Buffalo Brewfest. I saw a poster up somewhere just the other day, and had a chance to ask Flying Bison owner Tim Herzog a few questions about it the other night, seeing as tickets go on sale TODAY. In addition to proviging me with this fine, fine graphic, he assured me of a few other details…

As you might expect, it will once again be held in the Central Terminal, which worked out very well last year. I should remind people that last year did indeed sell out (much to some of my friend’s dismay), so I strongly advise you to get your tickets, um, yesterday; they’re $5 cheaper that way, anyway. The lineup is expanded from last year’s as well- one addition I’m most definitely looking forward to is Sackets Harbor. Food will once again be provided by Steel Drums, Ulrich’s and Pizza Plant, and yes, just as the poster says…. MORE BATHROOMS!

One change from previous years is the adoption of tokens for redeeming samples: this year, your admission also grants you 12 tokens, which amounts to 12 3-oz. samples. Can you get more tokens? Yes- they will cost $1.00 apiece. Does this seem to make it more of a responsible, tasting-based festival and less of a bunch of wasted 21-year-olds? Sure does. Suits me fine, and its fully in-line with the best of the brewfests out there. And along the same lines, designated drivers get in free and also get special treatment in the form of a VIP lounge and free refreshments.

Of course, as far as non-beer-or-food-presence goes, Niagara Traditions Homebrewing Supply and the NAH will be putting on a homebrewing demo, and (shocking!) Beer-O-Vision will be on hand as well, filming, interviewing, reviewing, and generally documenting the tomfoolery… and the shenanigans. Look out for them, and for us!
